A BER measures the energy performance of a home, based on its construction, insulation, windows, heating, hot water, ventilation and lighting. From 24 May 2026, Ireland uses a simplified scale from A0 to G.

Your Assessor: Michael McNeill
Michael established BER Essential in 2009, after several years in residential property development and renovation in Ireland and Hungary.
Since then he has also worked as a home energy advisor on SSE Airtricity's One Stop Shop retrofit service and carried out surveys connected with the SEAI Warmer Homes Scheme. That mix of construction and energy experience informs every assessment he carries out.
